Hi, I’m Jacob.  I’m a traveler, a reader, an outoorsman and a plant collector.  I'm a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and a Wilderness First Responder. In 2013 I graduated with an MSW from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  There, I obtained specialty certificates in Substance Abuse Counseling and School Social Work. I’ve worked with youth and young adults in the therapeutic field for over ten years, at every level from guide to clinican. I’ve aided middle schoolers, adolescents and people in their 20's/30s to transition from angry and confused to calmer and empowered. I take great satisfaction in teaching the process of communicating feelings maturely.  My experience ranges from wilderness therapy programs and therapeutic boarding schools to juvenile justice centers.  I started my private practice, located in Bethesda, MD to provide an alternative model of therapy for young men.  I take my role as a mentor to teens and young adults seriously, and my goal is to get real work done, but also have fun along the way.  My practice combines the techniques, experience and learning achieved through a decade in the therapeutic sphere to aid young men struggling with the process of growing up and finding themselves. I believe in the restorative power of nature, and provide outdoor therapy, multi hour experiential activities and family therapy in addition to traditional one on one therapy sessions. I love what I do, and I believe that therapy can be beneficial for anyone.  Whether it is crisis intervention, a family issue or a desire to round off some rough edges, I look forward to helping in your change process.
